FALL BREAK WEEKS PART 1

October 22nd - October 28th

The days before fall break were filled with both anxiety and eagerness. Jack and I decided we both wanted to travel Europe instead of staying in Sweden for the two weeks that we had for break. We decided we wanted to visit Denmark, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. We spent the couple days that we had planning our route with buses, housing, meals and activities. The planning took longer than we both had expected. However, Wednesday (onsdag) we had finished everything we needed to do and were ready to start packing. Sunday (sondag) Kajsa, Louise, Linnea and I decided to go to church. There was a concert at Louise’s church that would be in English. The performance was by a children’s group from an orphanage in Uganda. The children were happy and energetic and brightened my tired spirit. (Will post videos). Our classes before fall break dragged on. Our Monday (måndag) Swedish night class we took a walk to a cemetery because in Sweden a persons profession was usually put on their tombstone and we were learning about professions. In our comparative politics class we were assigned a project to pick a country to research and present about its political system. Axel and I decided to work together and chose Colombia as our country. This project would be due after break. Thursday (torsdag) was the day jack and I decided to leave Jönköping for Copenhagen. We ate dinner before heading to the bus station for our trip to Copenhagen however we got a text from our bus that it would be around an hour late. We decided to waste some time in the city in pipes. We sat and shared our mutual nerves about traveling alone for the first time. When it was time to get to our bus we got our stuff and headed to the station. We boarded the bus and our journey began. We arrived in Copenhagen late at night and walked to our Airbnb for the next two nights, when we arrived we got ready for bed and slept for the day of exploring tomorrow. Saturday morning we got up early, bought groceries for breakfast of pasteries and yogurt drink, and then got our stuff ready to ease Copenhagen. We started walking to the city where we found a cute park to take some pictures, and look out at the vast field. We then decided to go visit a famous castle. But because it took a long time to get there we stopped by a few coffee shops and a polish sausage stand to get pølse for lunch. After lunch we found the castle that was magnificent. The sky was blue and the water welcomed the fresh autumn leaves to its bay. We continued to walk around before deciding to go to dinner. On the way to dinner we found a hedge maze that we walked through. When we reached our restaurant we were a little confused because google maps was telling us it was in an alleyway covered in graffiti. We decided to trust the map and went in. We walked up the graffiti stained stairs up into a fancy restaurant. We ordered and discovered that this meal might be the best meal either of us have had in a while; we ordered red wine (which was amazing), a hot goat cheese plate for an appetizer steak and veal for our main course and a berry pennacota for dessert. After dinner we walked to the grocery store to get a bottle of wine for tomorrows dinner as we were planning on saving money by not going out. We decided on a white chardonnay and then walked back to our airbnb to go to sleep ready to travel to Germany the next day.
